Family Support –
help you can rely on
Southside’s highly trained team of Family Support Workers helps safeguard families in emotional or physical chaos. Our main aim is always to secure the safety of the children involved, and we support carers in developing the parenting skills they need.
Many of our Family Support Workers are local people who have used our services in the past. In fact, 80% of all our staff and volunteers live in the communities in which they work.
We train, supervise and assist our Family Support Workers so they provide truly effective emotional and practical support to people affected by domestic abuse, sexual violence, substance abuse and mental health difficulties.
Southside also provides Family Support Specialists who work directly with families, as well as train and support our staff teams to equip them to provide emotional support to families with particularly complex and multiple needs.
In terms of the practical help we provide, this might cover anything from bedtime routines, breast feeding advice, creative play, hygiene and potty training to household budgeting, cooking, gardening, decorating and transport to appointments.
Southside also has a team of Baby Buddies. These are volunteers, mentored by experienced Family Support Workers, who specifically support families before and after the birth of their babies.
